Pordum Assaults Open Government
Pordum Assaults Open Government

At the first meeting of the year, Evans Supervisor Fran Pordum continued his assault on open government. Residents can no longer speak “on the public record” since privilege of the floor was removed from the agenda. Pordum now adjourns the meeting which is labeled “recess” on the agenda, and holds what he’s calling “Public Discussion of Town Business”. While this may seem insignificant, it’s really an important detail since what residents have to say will no longer be made part of the minutes or the public’s permanent record. Last year Pordum removed communications from the agenda. In one year, Fran Pordum has eliminated all methods of communicating “on the record” with the Evans Town Board. Under Fran Pordum, Evans residents have been subjected to egg timers, metal detectors and more. What’s next? Taking down the flag and not starting meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance?
